Deluxe room & fireplace
My entry Deluxe Room at The Chedi Andermatt already felt generous. I had a large bathroom, comfortable bed and fireplace, enough to enjoy a slow evening after a long mountain day without paying automatically for a suite. The Asian-Alpine design looked dramatic, but it worked best when there was time to live in the room.
Pool, spa & dining
The 35-meter indoor pool was a real place to swim, with mountains beyond the tall windows. I stayed long enough for the spa, then looked in on the cheese cellar rather than treat it as a quirky name on a list. Japanese dining made another cold evening inside appealing when it was open. Even a modest round at the bar added up quickly.
Seasonal logistics
Season changed the practical questions. On a road trip, coming back after a mountain pass was the pleasure; for skiing, getting equipment to the slopes would matter more. The room's summer cooling is not necessarily conventional air-conditioning, so I would check it before a warm-weather stay.
Would I return?
The mountain-facing pool and generous Deluxe Room are better reasons to return than a grander suite name. A high category name seemed less important than enough nights to enjoy the mountains and the hotel on both sides of the bedroom window.
