Golf & grounds
Gleneagles offered more than a room near a golf course. I could spend hours playing, try another outdoor activity or walk the grounds before dinner in the fresh Perthshire air. It made a short stop feel too short, especially with the spa and several restaurants still to explore.
Room & birthday surprise
For a birthday, a move to a room just below suite level and a bottle of Champagne felt like a lovely surprise. It was not an automatic part of the booking. The older buildings hold different room positions, so quiet and a good night's sleep mattered more to me than the name of an upgrade.
Dining at Andrew Fairlie
Dinner at Andrew Fairlie deserved arranging early. Another afternoon could end with coffee and cake at the Strathearn, a much easier occasion than a full formal meal. I liked how a round of golf, the scenery and something good afterward could make a complete day without driving elsewhere.
Would I return?
The room rate is only part of the cost once golf, meals and other activities are included. I'd come back with several days and a budget for the experiences I actually wanted. One expensive night without anything reserved would have missed most of what makes the estate worth visiting.
