MY STAY
The river-valley arrival
Crossing into the river valley at Four Seasons Sayan felt like leaving a busier Bali behind. The dramatic bridge arrival, water gardens and steep layers down toward the Ayung River made the grounds part of my day rather than just a route to the room.

The pool villa
I liked the circular stairs leading into a villa with its own outdoor pool. It gave me an afternoon to myself before going back up for a Bee Sting cocktail over the valley. The main pool, yoga and spa offered another rhythm; walking through the gardens instead of rushing past them was part of the pleasure.

Dinner & turndown
Balinese food on site meant dinner did not require another long drive away from the river. Coming back after evening turndown made the villa feel different again. A two-level room in the main building would be a different stay from this river-facing villa, so the layout matters much more than the broad label "room" or "villa."

Would I return?
Sayan needs several nights, with enough unplanned time between Ubud outings to use that private pool above the river. This is a river retreat, not a beachfront Four Seasons. Treating it only as a bed after sightseeing would miss the part I remember most: the valley itself.
