Historic building & room
Capella Sydney made its old government building feel lived in rather than preserved behind glass. My Premier King had room to spread out and a bath that made a slow morning tempting, and I could walk to Circular Quay whenever the city called.
Room requests & details
The tablet made ordinary room requests easy: ice, firmer pillows and the lights could all be handled without a long phone call. One less successful detail was the bedside night lighting, which could reflect in the mirrors and disturb sleep. I checked it before turning in. The technology mattered less than a comfortable room and housekeeping that followed through.
Breakfast, pool & bar
At breakfast there was no need to choose between the buffet and the à la carte menu; taking something from each felt like a proper start. The indoor pool made a Sydney afternoon inside worthwhile, and McRae Bar, named for the building's architect, served a more interesting cocktail than a standard hotel nightcap. Prices were worth a glance before settling in for several rounds.
Would I return?
The Culturist team could even arrange a short-notice car for a performance across town. That sort of help gave the large building a personal feel. I would stay again with enough time for the pool and room, not merely to sleep near the harbor.
