Room & palace views
The lobby on Aman Tokyo's 33rd floor made the city feel suddenly manageable. I found my room quiet, the Japanese materials warm rather than stark, and a view toward the Imperial Palace gardens gave me something to look at besides office towers. Room direction matters here; being high up alone does not guarantee the most interesting outlook.
The indoor pool
The 40-meter indoor pool has dark stone and tall windows that let the city in without its noise. I made time to swim there rather than just look in between sightseeing stops. Downstairs, the business district grew calmer after work, a welcome contrast to Tokyo's busier streets when it was time to return.
Service & city plans
There were lovely signs of care, down to staff lining up at the car entrance to bow as a taxi left. Check-in and reservations still needed an occasional follow-up. For lunch away from the hotel, the department stores at Mitsukoshi and Takashimaya in nearby Nihonbashi made an easy outing; Tokyo has too much good food to spend every evening in one dining room.
Would I return?
The pool and a room facing the palace gardens deserve more than an overnight glance at the famous lobby. A confirmed garden-facing outlook makes the peace up here feel like part of the stay rather than a moment on arrival.
